Why does Apple use a picnic table as the “Apps” icon?

  1. It's not a picnic table, it's a letter A made out of a compass (the drafting kind, not the find-my-way-in-a-forest kind).

  2. I lied (actually, I just found a large picture). It's a bunch of tools. http://www.mobilemarketingwatch.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/New-App-Store-for-Mac-May-Debut-Next-Week.jpg

  3. Thanks. If it was a compass, I was thinking it was a pretty poor drawing, especially the crossbar "overhang" being on both the left and right sides. The paintbrushes and such make more sense, but I'd never get it from the tiny icon.

I think they should just go with the picnic table. They could do a Yogi Bear tie-in.
